Scoop Team Saves City!

     This morning, after baking some fabulous Pumpkin Cinnamon Struesel Muffins, Brooke, Alyssa, Ashley and I headed to Universal Studios.  When we left this morning, I had to put on a sweater, because it was actually chilly!

 And sweaters of courser, equal Christmas. 

     We did the usual, rode some rodes, met some Dr. Seuss characters, got some less-than-disney-quality popcorn, and did some shopping.

 

 

      As we headed out from the park, we decided to head to Joe's Crab Shack to meet up with some of our friends for half-priced appetizers and drinks.  I love Joe's!

 

 A day ended by a bucket of garlicky mussels and the best of friends is okay in my book!

Minion Pit Stop

     I had work today, but my roommates and friend Ashley, wanted to spend some time at Universal Studios.  We headed over this morning, and I got to squeeze in a couple rides before I had to head home and get ready for my shift.

      It's pretty cool that I get to do fun things like this, even if I have to work that day!

     Today was our first totally free day.  We headed to Islands of Adventure, with plans to spend the whole day, with a ride on Harry Potter to kick off the fun.  We clearly had forgotten how busy it was yesterday, and today was no different.  Ride times were often exceeding 90 minutes, and it was hot, hot, hot.  

     On our way back to Hogsmeade, we passed through Seuss Landing, and stumbled across some familiar faces.  We snapped some photos and took a spin on the virtually wait-free Caro-seuss-al.  

      We headed for Harry Potter, and within minutes of standing in line, we were notified that the ride had been shut down.  We decided not to chance the continued waiting in line for a broken ride, and grabbed a butterbeer, from The Hog's Head Pub, instead.  Frozen deliciousness.  Clearly a superstar.

 

 

      We continued to stroll around, bypassing lots of rides because of the crazy wait times posted.  We then decided to head for water rides, to cool off.  We hit Dudley Do Right's Ripsaw Falls first, followed by Popeye and Bluto's Bilge-Rat Barges.  We were soaked to the bone, with big smiles!

 

     We grabbed a quick bite in the Comic Strip Cafe, and by the time we were finished, some serious clouds and thunder had rolled in.  We decided to book it to the car and head back.  Thank goodness we did, because it's been pouring since we got home!  Thunder and lighting has been popping, it's quite the storm!
     While it feels kind of odd to go to a park and only do a handful of things before leaving, it's very nice to not be pressed for time.  We have plenty of days to fit it all in.  Thanks annual pass!

Who lives in a pineapple under the sea? I DO

     Mickey Waffles.  The breakfast of champions mouseketeers.  After my earlier post today, I decided to whip up some waffles in my new Mickey waffle iron.  Easy enough right?  Except for the side note that I may or may not have set off the smoke detector doing so...I don't even know how, they weren't even burnt!  Thankfully, it only went off for a couple seconds, and shut off, just long enough to wake my sleeping roommates on our first morning together.  Thank goodness it's impossible to be mad when greeted with fresh waffles!

     After breakfast, my roommates decided to join me for my housing meeting, instead of attending their own, so that we could be done sooner, and head out to have some fun earlier. 
     The housing meeting was more or less what you'd expect.  Lots of rules, and lists of things to do and not to do.  It was supposed to be mandatory, but they weren't taking any sort of attendance.  The main speaker was funny however, and they did put it an effort to make it as interesting as possible.  Even with the silly rules...NO LIGHTSABERS!  ("If you can't live for six months without a lightsaber, you need to re-evaluate your priorities...)

 

            Right after the housing meeting (okay, and another quick trip to Walmart), we made a beeline for Universal Studios. 
     We met Lucy from I Love Lucy right away, and she was so sassy! We hopped on E.T. first, then walked right into the line to meet Patrick!

      Next up, we decided to wait for The Simpson's Ride, despite the long queue time.  By the time we got up to the front, I wasn't feeling so hot (dippin dots + extreme heat = unhappy Kayla), so I chose to sit it out.  The employees allowed me to sit in front of their ride room door, to wait in the air conditioning.
     A few short minutes after the ride door closed, the entire building went black.  I couldn't see my hand in front of my face, and my roommates were stuck.  It took about 30 minutes of employees running around in the dark, before we finally got to get out.  It was actually pretty funny!

      The park was more crowded than I've ever seen, and the wait times were so long, that coupled with the power outage, we decided to call it a day.  Definitely got this program off to a good start though!  Hopefully, it's the first of many fun days I get to spend with these gals!
